About Limperts Academy of Design

Limperts Academy of Design is an International Awarding Body committed to improving standards & achievement for all professional design students by dramatically changing the training systems available. Unlike many validating bodies, Limperts Academy of Design are actively involved with tutors and colleges, providing an entire support program for our courses from curricula & instruction to administration support and tutor training.

With every course offered by Limperts Academy of Design, the curriculum and course material is developed specifically for that course, and information is introduced and explained in the context within which it will be used. A clear schedule is provided, along with detailed course manuals for tutors and students so that from the outset, both groups have a clear sense of where each lesson is headed and what students are expected to know and be able to do as a result. As a result, each course has a clear focus and the format helps students to develop a deep understanding of the material, so they can apply it practically. This awareness has a powerful effect on student engagement, because they can see the value in each new skill and subject; when students understand the context for a lesson, they are much more absorbed in it and, consequently, learn more.

With all of our courses, each lesson is accompanied by a student assignment, and these build on prior knowledge, progressively growing in complexity, so that by the end of the course, students will have produced a collection of work to meet the standards and requirements of Limperts Academy of Design and of the professional design industry itself. Clear examples of high-quality work are also provided with each course as “visual aids” for the tutor to utilise in the classroom; so that students can gain a clear understanding of the different aspects of their chosen course. The grading criteria is clearly explained to tutors and students alike, so both groups are clear about exactly what is required. As a result, students have a visible target to aim for and tutors are free to concentrate their efforts on presenting effective lessons and ensuring that students' work is of the highest quality, rather than inventing an entire course of study from scratch.

At Limperts Academy of Design we believe that everyone has a natural sense of flair and creativity, and our aim for our tutors is not to teach design, but to facilitate learning so that students can develop their own unique ability. Our curriculum, instructional program, and grading system are all organized to give students opportunities to demonstrate that their work meets the standards, enabling students to achieve at much higher levels than conventional wisdom suggests possible. This is no small feat, and it represents a substantial shift from the way most Awarding Bodies currently operate. Most importantly, a complete education program like this makes it possible for tutors to focus their efforts and resources on what counts - helping students to reach the standards required so that they can enter the design industry successfully on completion of their course!
