About our Garden & Landscaping Design Diploma Course

Landscape and garden design differs from other types of design; it is a living and growing design that changes from season to season and needs continual nurturing and maintenance. Architecture, clothes and graphic designs usually look their best when new, but this is seldom true with landscape designs, which usually look best once the completed design has had time to establish itself and reach maturity. Achieving a successful design requires much more than placing plants, trees and shrubs on the land; it is an art that deals with conscious arrangement and organisation of outdoor space for human satisfaction and enjoyment…

This is one of the few courses available that focus on landscape and garden design and it is aimed at preparing you to work as a professional landscape and garden designer. It is important to note that this is not a “gardening” or “horticulture” course, and you will not be required to physically dig a garden or plant trees. Instead this course will teach you how to design gardens, by understanding all the components of a successful landscape design and the various considerations you need to take into account when creating original designs for clients. You will explore all the key aspects of landscape and garden design, including professional presentation and communication of design ideas. In short, you will be sufficiently prepared to develop original designs for clients and instruct contractors so that your design ideas become reality.

Like all our courses, each lesson will introduce you to new skills and knowledge, and on completion of each lesson you will be required to complete an assignment, putting into practice what you have just learnt. Assignments are all project based and as you complete each one you will receive valuable feedback from your tutor so that you can continually improve your work, and attain the high standard that is demanded in today’s industry. The assignments themselves have been deliberately structured so that they can be used as a portfolio of work to help you impress potential clients and employers on completion of your course. At the end of the course, you will be asked to complete a Final Project, which will involve designing and communicating an original landscape and garden design in response to a brief and this project will be an important portfolio piece for you. All our students find this approach extremely valuable.

Full details of this course and examples of student work are available in our digital prospectus which can be downloaded by clicking on the link on the right side of this page. Or you may use the following link to review the full curriculum…
