“The best place to seek God is in a garden.  You can dig for him there. “
~George Bernard Shaw, The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God, 1932

Hi everybody,

With winter settling in, we find ourselves searching for the cosiest corner of the room, not willing to go out if there is no pressing need.
However, being indoors can have other benefits besides just being warm and cosy. It doesn’t mean we have to hibernate for the winter just because outdoors are our profession’s natural habitat.

Winter is the perfect time to sort through the collection of materials and images you accumulated “on the go” and “along the way”.  This is right time to upgrade your Portfolio, add a new mood and concept board or two. Put your ides on the paper by drawing sketches, and assembling collection of interesting and innovative materials to be used in the future.

Review things done, and plan next steps.
Improve your professional skills, or add new ones. Winter is a perfect time for learning. Choose discipline you would like to study, check availability of courses and immerse yourself in studying.

Limperts Academy of Design has a fantastic choice of courses than can improve your design knowledge and skills, and you have option to study with us on your own time and pace, yet to have tutor’s support whenever needed.

As a Garden Designer you will use colour all the time and in so many ways; so why not excel in that field by signing in for our Certificate in Colour ConsultancyCourse, where you will learn more about issues such as:

Visual Communication
Colour Science & Theory
Working with Colour
Colour Psychology
Colour Notation

Or why not broaden your views by learning more about the art of lighting on our Lighting Design Course?
Issues such as:

Understanding Light
Lighting Effects & How to Achieve Them
Lighting Controls & Switches
Design Communications

These will enable you to start designing outdoor lighting to add night interest to your garden designs.

Naturally, if you are already studying with us, use quiet time to catch up with your lessons and assignments, and only when you are close to the end, do add new courses to your schedule.

In any case, do not forget to check out our website from time to time, because we have lined up some interesting and useful information for your attention, and will continue to do so frequently.

Even though it is the time when Nature mostly sleeps, there are plenty of parks, gardens and nurseries that are open all year around. As a Garden Designers you need to know how to design successful and beautiful gardens, and one of most important considerations in that effect is achieving all year round interest in the garden. Go visit gardens, parks, estates and nurseries; explore what features, plants and materials are most effective during this part of the year. Record your findings, by taking notes, photos, and collecting materials.

Share your conclusions with others by posting on our Bulletin Board, or send them to me, and I’ll include them (with your name) as a part of this website’s next update.

I appreciate all your comments and opinions; please, keep them coming. My e-mail address is still natalija.cvetic@limpertsacademy.com

As holidays are approaching, we have to think about closure times in our office. It is important for all of you to know that Limperts’ Offices both in UK and in Ireland will be closed from24th December 2008 to 5th January 2009

We will make sure to send back feedbacks for all the assignments which are delivered to us by15th December. If you are sending your assignments later than that date, you will have to expect the delay in getting them back. By returning from holidays we will, of course, work extra hard, so we can ketch up with all the received work for your satisfaction.

This time of the year should be time to reflect and time to gear up! Maybe a few resolutions if you are that type, or just pure thankfulness for things that have been, and things that can be. New Year is like fresh, pure canvas for us to make imprint of our choice. Seize that opportunity to re-emerge as an improved and brilliant version of yourself. And, believe me, this is not just a phrase, I mean every word I said. Think about it!

On that point there are some inspirational quotes with which I’m leaving you until next time we meet.

“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”

“But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads?”
Albert Camus

“Happiness comes when your work and words are of benefit to yourself and others”
Buddha

“The basic thing is that everyone wants happiness, no one wants suffering. And happiness mainly comes from our own attitude, rather than from external factors. If your own mental attitude is correct, even if you remain in a hostile atmosphere, you feel happy”
The Dalai Lama

“Whoever is happy will make others happy, too”
“Sanity and happiness are an impossible combination”
“Happiness is a Swedish sunset -- it is there for all, but most of us look the other way and lose it”
Mark Twain

“If you want to be happy, be!”
Leo Tolstoy

“Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys.  If he counted them up as he ought to, he would see that every lot has enough happiness provided for it”
Fyodor Dostoevsky

“What a wonderful life I've had!  I only wish I'd realized it sooner”
Colette

“A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour”

I wish you happy Holidays, good health, success and joy!
