Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.
William Cullen Bryant

I can’t believe its almost Autumn already!

The months of May, June & July seem to have flown by and while June was a scorcher, July had its usual share of rain. While the flowers have put on a show in the heat of June, the rain washed away the petals of Papaver, Rosa and Jasminium, so it has appeared that the flowering season was short lived for some. Now we have the late summer flowers of August, September and October to look forward to, an area which is often overlooked in garden design, but it is just as important to think of whats in bloom for all seasons of the year.

While it can seem like the beautiful floral displays of the summer days are over, it is the beginning of a new season for the garden when the plants put on a final burst of firey colours to show that the wow factor can be even more dramatic in these Autumn months. Have a look at the plant of the month link to see what’s looking its best during these months.

We have lots of upcoming garden shows and events to inspire, check out the events link. As usual there are lots of useful websites and books that will help you in your studies or inspire you to take a course in garden design! If you get a chance, you must go to the national Botanic Gardens in Dublin as the herbaceous borders are spectacular and are a must see.

In our events link, I have included a number of lectures/shows which should help you in your studies as a Landscape and Garden Designer. If you are not already a student, you may find your inspiration to pursue a career in this area by attending some of these events. I wish you all the best in your studies.

Best Regards,

Deirdre
