Many people associate Daffodils and Cherry Blossom with Springtime, but there are many more plants to enjoy in this season. In this lecture the common and the more unusual gems for this time of year are highlighted. Dr Mary Forrest is Senior Lecturer at the College of Life Sciences in University College Dublin where she teaches landscape management, horticulture and garden history. She was educated at the National Botanic Gardens, UCD and Trinity College Dublin and is well known for her work in horticulture, including an inventory of trees and shrubs in exotic plant collections in Ireland.

Stephen is Curator of Horticulture at Dublin Zoo. In the last 5 years two heavily landscaped habitats have been developed in Dublin Zoo. The Kaziranga Forest Trail for the Asian Elephants, was planted to provide a lush jungle like, environment using mass bamboo planting. Lots of grasses, acacia, and many South African plants were used to make the giraffe, zebra, oryx, ostrich and rhino, all feel at home in the African Savannah. These two major planting projects were carried out by the Dublin Zoo Horticulture Department.

'Saxifrages - a Definitive guide to the 2000 species, Hybrids and Cultivars' by Malcolm McGregor was published to great acclaim in 2008. As well as being an expert on saxifrages, Malcolm has lectured extensively and is a fine photographer.
