Meet the team

Hi Everyone,

A few years ago no-one really knew what a blog was. Now millions of people all over the world share with anyone who is interested in their thoughts and musings on any one of a million subjects. The fashion world is one subject that has always attracted plenty of commentary and the world of blogging has allowed lovers of fashion to share their views with other fashion fans. While many blogs are viewed by only the creator themselves, some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following, so much so that fashion editors have quickly come knocking at their door with ‘The Sartorialist’ Scott Schuman covering shows for Style.com and Susannah Lau, the 24 year-old arbiter of Stylebubble.com, one of my personal favourite blogs, is now the commissioning editor for Dazed and Confused magazine online site dazeddigital.com.

One of the most interesting sectors of these fashion blogs are the fascinating street style blogs, which display snapshots of chic and often creative pedestrians in cities around the world. While bloggers like Susie Bubble ( as Susannah Lau is better known) show us the wonders of their own stylish wardrobe looks, many are building blogs around the style they see on the streets of their own cities. New York, Paris, London, Copenhagen, Dublin, Berlin…you name it, and there’s a blog dedicated to the style of its inhabitants showing the individuality and creativity that exists around the world.

Street Style has always been accredited with being a huge influence to the fashion industry itself with many companies hiring ‘cool hunters’ whose job is to make observations and predictions in changes of cultural trends. Now the inventiveness, variety, unpredictability and beauty of the fashion on the streets of the cities of the world is only a click away.

Many bloggers update their sites daily not only with these fantastic images but also with their own observations and musings of whats happening in the industry they are so passionate about, so not only can you get some great inspiration but you can find out whats going on in the fast moving fashion world ( if your Vogue and Elle updates aren’t enough for your fashion appetite!!!). So to keep you up-to-date with the best and most influential sites we have set up a recommended blogs link where we will seek out and review new and exciting blogs for you to check out.

The summer may seem far away but for those of you considering getting work experience, and the summer tends to be the most popular time for doing so, I strongly advise that you start thinking about applying in the next few months as intern places often fill up quickly.

Magazines, newspapers, retail stores, and design houses all generally take on people on work experience over the summer months so start applying as soon as possible.

If you are working full time you can still offer your services for one day a week, perhaps assisting a local stylist on a photo-shoot or doing window displays for a clothing store. Experience is invaluable and just as important as your portfolio so start investing some time in it now, and keep an eye on our Job oppurtunities section for any positions that may arise.

I’m happy to let you all know that the fabulous Nichola Kinch will be back with us in Limperts Academy of Design as Programme leader for Image and Fashion this month. Welcome back Nichola!
