A Modern Contemporary Designer Bedroom
I was always interested in Art and Design from an early age. When I finished High School I began at Northumberland College of Arts studying A-Level Graphic Design and A-Level Art. On completion of these qualifications I began a BTEC Foundation course in Art & Design specialising in Graphic Design. When I began the Foundation course my work was very computer based and mainly two dimensional, but after having visited many Sculpture and Fine Art exhibitions I became increasingly interested in working in a more hands-on way and my work therefore became more sculptural. I then began an HNC in Three Dimensional Design at Newcastle College of Arts where my passion for furniture, interiors and spacial awareness was awakened.
After studying, I decided it would be good for me to experience different European cultures. I had a friend from school who was living in Germany so I moved there with the intention of staying for about a year or so. I began to learn German and secured a good position within an Insurance company. I then met my partner who is from Kilkenny, he was also living and working in Frankfurt. I ended up staying in Germany for almost six years before moving to Cork with my partner in May 2005.
I always knew that when I left Germany I wanted to begin studying again. I looked around at courses but knew I would not be able to study full-time. I found the course in Interior Design with Limperts Academy at Skerrys / Griffith College and thought it would be perfect for me as the class was once a week with coursework which could be completed in my own time. I am now almost finished the course and have enjoyed it very much.
I was delighted to be selected as a finalist in the Graduate Interior Designer of the Year 2006 competition, It was a big achievement for me and helped me to realise my ability not only as a student but also as an independent interior designer. I have since registered my company 'Visualise Design' & am in the process of setting up the web site www.visualisedesign.com Thanks to Limperts, I now have a few appointments for consultations and hope my business will grow from here on.
