Gold Winner in the Student Category
Nature’s best
Autumn Dining Room
Hi my name is Teresa O’Keeffe. I was delighted to be awarded Gold Winner in the Student Category at the Digiweb Ideal Homes Exhibition. I have just graduated from a Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration which I studied at Waterford Institute of Technology.
Interior Design was something I’ve always wanted to work at so I’ve decided to start my own business called “Inside Spaces” and having a Room Set at the Ideal Homes Exhibition was a great experience because I got a lot of good advice from some very interesting people in the design industry.
I chose an Autumn Dining Room under the theme Nature’s best for the room set because I think autumn is the best time of year for colour and texture.
The autumn leaves change their colour from green to red and then to a beautiful rust colour before falling to the ground to create a rustling carpet under foot and the trees stand naked in the autumn breeze washed with rain.
To show these details in the Dining Room I chose textured wallpaper in green and in red for the walls. The floor was laid with a rusty/red coloured weaved carpet. The Dining table, 4 chairs, book shelf and side board were all made from washed oak in a contemporary style.
Hanging up over the side board was a silver framed mirror which helped to reflect the light from the chrome and glass table lamp that matched the floor lamp and ceiling pendant all from the Willow collection.
Two weaved Havana dining chairs seat at each side of the side board and were dressed with gold and rust coloured cushions.
Hanging on the rear wall next to the book shelf were three contemporary style leaf prints which added a splash of autumn colour to the room.
Finally the accessories helped add more texture and colour to this contemporary styled Dining room by using glass, fabric, candles, flowers, pottery, handmade paper and leaves.
I would like to thank all my sponsors Sienna Home Furnishings, MRCB Paints, K&D Flooring, Home Focus at Hickeys, Australis Lighting, Abege Flowers and everyone at Limperts Academy of Design for giving me the chance to design the room set. |
